You should run down to Crosco Farms/Crosby Trucking over on Keezletown Rd in Mt Sidney. I'm willing to bet if you talk to em you may be able to get what you want. They are desperate for drivers (still calling me almost two years later). You will NOT be running legal if you go with them though, FYI.
What say you, will a company accomodate these requests?

You will probably have to go with one of the mega-bottom carriers such as JB or Swift. I could name off a few in the Valley but I am not sure if they are taking drivers straight out of school. The first one that I would knock on the door would be Houff, plenty of miles and easy work. Crosby would be my last resort. Appalachian up in Edinburg runs a smooth operation with good equipment. Blizzard in Harrisonburg runs down into Texas and Florida with proceesed poultry, I think at one time they were taking drivers out of school. Most all the refer outfits in Harrisonburg deal with the poultry plants which can be a real pain.
Being retired you are probably not hurting for money, you should check with the milk haulers. But if you are not concerned about being gone for a couple of weeks, call J E Owens in Forest, Va.(Lynchburg) they run the West Coast and see if they take drivers out of school. Streett in Quicksburg is another one to check with.
But my first choice would be Houff but you are in every week-end.Fireman0053 and Roadmedic Thank this. -
Even if you are on the national fleet Roehl gets you home 3 days if youre out 11. They will try to make it less but you have to put your foot down for the full 3.Fireman0053 Thanks this. -
Just think of it this way probably remember you are now the low man on the totem poll.

Put yes I agree dont let your DM or FM push you around if you need the days off then you need to get them. Your not a number you are a person.

No they will not regard driving a fire engine as experience. They do not consider experience experience if it is longer ago then three years. Much of the industry is driven by insurance rather then anything sane.
How specific is your 12/4 schedule needs? The offtime can usually be accomplished (many trucking companies are perfectly willing to hotseat you) but it can be very hard to get something very specific. To get a strict 12/4 schedule to accommodate also staying a part time fighter you probably need to find something dedicated and local. Most dedicated and local jobs require at least 6 months of experience otr first.Fireman0053 Thanks this. -
Thanks for all the responses and I understand I will be the low man on the totem poll and that is okay. I was just wondering if I stay out 12 days and want 4 off when I get home if this was something they will do. I think that is pretty fair but what I think probably don't mean very much. But I am going to try and get a schedule like that. You would also think driving a fire apparatus would count for something since we drive in tight places like city streets, rural roads and the interstate and have to do it in a safe and efficient manner. But there I go thinking again. lol
