I agree with Ruthless. Each stop is additional money. Out direct customer involves LTL, usually 12 stops now, was 30 at one point. Everything is mileage plus stop pay, and there's no questions about it.
Even if it's the same store, with a warehouse across the street, we get paid for 2 stops. Even though it all goes to the warehouse.

Now is that what you're stating? Same store but 2 different locations?

One thought is to renegotiate your contract, if you have one in place. Maybe to have your customer think hrs winning, make a statement about x miles no charge, but now increase your rate per mile to make up for it. This way you still make the same and someone thinks they are getting their way. Food for thought.

Personally, I dislike doing the same work for less. As do most people.

I wonder if the trucking company was Schneider National or JB Hunt and this customer told them since one of the stops was so close to the other one they should just do it for free what they would say? They'd probably laugh their ##### off at him.

People ##### about megas being cheap or whatever all the time but whenever I have seen posted contract information that outlInes specifically what and how they charge their customers for detention, re-consignment, extra stops, etc, etc, etc it becomes crystal clear that these big companies do not do these things for free. Far from it.

I saw a pdf not long ago not sure if it was Heartland Express or who it was and they were charging like $150 for the first stop off and $300 for every one after that plus other normal accessory charges like detention above and beyond their line haul rate. This customer sounds like a complete yahoo tring to take advantage of you OP.

Hate to say it but, sounds like your on your way out or you should start planning to get out. For me, your situation is an instant deal breaker.

It means when you both agree to a price, put it on paper because many times they will forget and say "you said you were charging me 75 cents a mile" when you said $1.75 a mile and agreed to $1.75.

Thanks Big D, It's two homes under construction near each other. To where I could park let's say between them and only have to stop the one time. Unloading the pallets of natural stone with my piggyback forklift.

Well that's kind of new info. If you parked between 2 projects and delivered to both with out moving your truck again well then I kinda see his point and trust me I'm on your side I have 4 trucks myself. If this rarely happens then I would just eat it and then make it clear in writing that in the future each drop address is a separate charge wether there in the same parking lot or across town. Each address pays stop pay , whatever amount you have agreed to.

I've ate some BS returned loads or refused product before that I've lost money on because I had to pay my drivers. I wasn't happy about it but I'm not gonna throw a temper tantrum over a few hundred bucks and risk pissing them off and possibly lose a 500k a year contract. Sometimes it's just the cost of doing business. If this is your business you own and you've been there for a while don't let your ego get the best of you . good work and contracts are hard to come by these days. Remember you could be driving for $1.00 a mile somewhere barely making it.......Just my opinion. Good luck

Yeah, this shines some new light. I would only charge for one drop. You didn't have to move. just delivered to the other side. He probably only charged his customer one delivery fee. If your you are arguing with him over this he must not be a very good customer. if he were you wouldn't risk loosing him over this. Right?
