Good luck with that. As a JB Hunt driver, if I had a nickel for every driver I saw storming out of orientation after the fourth day because they tried to put him on OTR after the dumb recruiter lied and promised him a dedicated job I'd be retired. You can try it, but don't say I didn't warn you.

I don't know what USXpress pays, but if I were a single guy, that'd be at the top of my list. They have a lot of hot women drivers over there.

lol Yep, but most I know are married and driving with the hubby and their pets.

    # original poster: There's no easy way around it. You gotta go through orientation and ride 2nd seat for a bit anywhere you apply (even if the recruiters say otherwise). They want to see how you do and what you might need before they get you out on your own. Can't think of anyone who will let you pass go straight off a hiatus with no solo or team exp after the initial and if they did you probably really wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

    2KoolJ,

You made the right CHOICE! I was in your BOAT in Sept of 07. I CLOSED my BBQ restaurant and moved my Dad from Ohio to Georgia to care for him. I was out of work for over a year. My girlfriend and I cared for him up till the last 2 weeks of his life, then when he got 2 bad he went to hospice house. He passed in June of 08. Just before he passed he helped me open another restaurant. Things were going WIDE OPEN from July to September. Then just like the rest of the country the BOTTOM started FALLING OUT. I was FORCED to close my business and try and find a JOB. HA! HA! So then I saw jobs for CDL or Nurses. I don't know your position, mine was all I had to do was give them a letter that for that period I was his caregiver. They also wanted to see PROOF that he was paying my bills through this period of time. Just had to have copies of SS check and GM retirement check stubs. I'm about to LOSE our home but I feel I did the RIGHT thing CARING for him. Being the only CHILD is ROUGH as everything is on YOUR BACK. Most PRAISED me and others gave me $!!T for closing to care for him. Screw the others, I did the right thing. Now I'm just going to have to RUN my ### off to get out of the HOLE we've gotten in since the $$$$$ QUITE coming in. I just turned 50 in Nov. and feel like I've got a good 10+ years left in me GOD willing. Should be able to DIG myself out of this RUT. Take Care and God Bless!

I've been there. You did the right thing, you'll never get that year with your dad back. My biggest sadness was I wasn't around my dad in the end as much as he wanted me around, and he had no problem telling me so, but at the time I had small children that needed me too, I had to keep working, to keep the kids fed. I wish I could have been around more.

Well i have some bad news that turns into good news. Well after i got all set up for the orientation, i got a call that i wasnt to go because they had no spots for current cdl grads. So i was up the creek without a paddle again. I started applying to other companies both local and OTR but had no luck. Well this morning i get a call, it was usXpress. They called to appoligize for what had previously happend and to tell me that they had an opening for me in their dollar general dedicated. So i guess i got lucky after all. Only thing i forgot to ask is about pay, not sure how it pays. But its got to be more than $0 hr.
