Hello all I'm new to trucking just got out of CDL School on nov 15th got all my endorsements But im stuck waiting on the tsa background check for hazmat.
I am wanting to hire on with CTL and they want to hire me but I'm worried that if i sit around and wait on the background check to go through that they will want me to take a refresher course seeing as im still wet behind the ears to driving rigs. I'm also wanting to try to spend at least one last christmas with my wife and kids b4 i hit the road.
So should i wait on the background check or should i just go with almost any company that will hire me? I do need money for christmas just hate the thought of not being here this christmas with my kids they are to young to understand daddy is out making money so they can have things. Please help!

Does CTL require that you already have the haz-mat endorsement before they will
hire you? If not hire on with them and just wait until you have the clearance for the
endorsement before accepting any haz-mat loads.

And NO, I would not just hire on with any company that will accept you. I'm sure you'd
have to be out of a truck for at least 6 months to a year before they will require that
    you take a refresher course.

Do your research on different company's and make an educated decision before
applying with any of them. What company you start with could very well make or
break your new found career and license.

Your up against what most drivers feel~Family vs work. Only you know whats more important and only you will decide whats best.

not entirely true. Rohel for instance, no more than 60 days out of a truck, and YOU ARE going back to school not for a refresher course, but THE ENTIRE COURSE all over again.....!!

less than 6 months out of a truck, is what i get from the recruiters going to my school....and even then, they cringe when it is nearly the 6th month..!!

Tough choice, you have to decide this one on your own. I always side for family. My advice is always take the time with your kids, you maybe able to have both. Most companies try to get the drivers home for Christmas. Just let them know its important to you.

You can always upgrade to Hazmat later, Its just a test and a back ground. Mine took less than 2 weeks to go thru.
