I value you guy's opinion and would like to know if you think it is smart for me to buy a truck and start off as an owner operator..I have enough money saved up and can purchase a truck and still have enough to start off...Do u think this is smart? I really want to lease my truck to Landstar once i purchase it.
What should i do?

Well..that's a tricky question bc we don't have enough info about your experience. And depending on that ,I'd definitely get some exp.under my belt in whatever field I was in before purchasing an expensive peice of equipment. If you have zero exp,I'd say save your funds, and learn on someone else's dime,THEN come back a year later and see where you're at.

Yeah you may not even like trucking. Lots of people dream of it all their lives then when they get out here and realize what total bs almost every aspect of it is, they quit. Would really suck to have that realization and end up selling equipment at a loss.

Do you meet Landstars qualifications?
Check Farm2Fleet and ask what truck they recommend for their operation.
Check Greatwide for their 0/0 logistics divisions. Lots of pro & con about them, but the drivers I personally know are very successful there.
Comtrak in Dallas might hire you as an 0/0. Check the website.
Consider working as a company driver for awhile with a company such as Comtrak or Trimac or Quality Distribution that uses 0/0's and company drivers and then switch over if you decide it's for you.123456 Thanks this. -
I'd say scratch Farm2Fleet off the list. If I had my say anyone with zero experience would never get leased on. Could be wrong here but I don't think there are openings anyways.

Well I want to really haul tankers. I live in Houston, Tx and I know thats a good location to haul Chemicals. I drove in the military but i know its a big difference. My father owned trucks but h passed away when I was 16. MY uncle owned a coupe but he sold them when the fuel prices jumped up. I was thinking about Schneider or SVTN to start off with....But I really want to own my own truck ASAP. I grew up around them and rode with my Dad in the summers and enjoyed every bit of it. I love to drive...it in my blood...Lol

Thank you for being in the military, and double thanks for being in Afghanistan. We really appreciate the work you all do keeping us safe. Be careful, and good luck .

The military didn't turn you loose in the desert and say go. Imagine if you stepped out and bought a truck with no experience. This is what you would be doing. Patience, drive for a company at least a year. You will the. Know what equipment you need. And some of the ins and outs.
plus, pulling a shotgun barrel is a whole different world. I would never put someone with less than 2 years experience pulling smooth bore.Truckergirl0720 Thanks this. -
Turnover is 125% in todays OVER REGULATED trucking...You are right,it is a B/S anymore..Truckergirl0720 and Cetane+ Thank this.
