    Hi Guys,

I bought my truck in July in OH. I live in PA. They gave me a OH title in my name with the truck. Was i supposed to transfer that to PA? Do I have to transfer it at all? The truck had IN tags and will have IA tags shortly. Does the title need to match the baceplate at all? Should i transfer it to IA, PA or not transfer at all? I will be leased on to TMC which will provide my baceplate in IA.

    Thanks

Maybe TMC can tell you. I bought my truck while leased to a Nebraska based company with Nebraska plates and got a Nebraska title ( I bought the truck in OK ). I later leased to a NC company that provided the plate. I handed over the title and received a NC title. I didn't know I had to change the title just to register the truck in a different state. I am gonna lease on somewhere in the near future and will probably have to pay for a plate myself. So I think I'll get a NC plate since I already have a NC title.

When you lease on and that company gets your base plates, do you have the identical paperwork as you would if you paid for your own up front in that state?

You title it in the state you live or your bussiness is. If you have an office in In. or other states with lower tax rate.
But being a single trk. you might not be Inc. or Llc. So your home address state is where you title.
Even if you are leasing it to a company they can still base plate it where ever they get their tags at.
You just need to give them a copy of the title. Front and back..

If you are incorporated in another state, can you title your truck in that state? Does your state inspection have to be done in that state?

I don't think it matters what state it is titled in, my last truck I bought in SD, leased to a SD based carrier, lived in another state, truck stayed titled in SD and I leased to a IA based carrier, then ran under my own authority, leased to a KY based carrier and ran an IL tag, then leased to a MN based carrier, truck was still titled in SD until I sold it last month. As long as its titled in your name I don't think it matters.

    Richter Thanks this.
