What temp idle to prevent gelling?

We have a winner! If the trucks are older than '08-'07 chances are it isn't #2 diesel, as ULSD isn't recommended for use in older trucks.

 

Then it might be so , the truck I have is a 2000 , but we have trucks that range from 80-2012. But as far as our trucks go , we dont have to idle over night due to were a construction company so no OTR , and if its cold enough outside for the high temp we wont work to much either , we go home for the day , I really couldnt tell you if its #2 or not. I was just mentioning mine started after sitting out in the cold and it being cold when it got cranked up. The only problem I had was my gates opening up and that was it.

 

Yours fired up probably because you aren't using ULSD. I have said this before but once again: not all fuels are the same. ULSD solidifies and gels at a warmer temperature than LSD does.

 

My company doesn't put any additives in with the fuel, but our yard is big enough so that every truck can get plugged in when they are parked. If someone forgets to plug the truck in, it's not going to start.

 

I park where theres not even a light pole in distance , better yet a outlet , so its not getting plugged in. As far as our mechanics jumping them off , your trying to draw blood from water my friend.

 

You haven't been able to buy anything BUT ULSD since 2010.

You can buy LSD still, just can't use it for highway use. And yeah, I was wrong on that aspect.

I'm thinking it might be the truck itself then. Trucks manufactured after '08 had to meet stricter EPA guidelines, so the solidified fuel might give newer trucks more of a problem due to their emmisions systems. Older trucks may not have this problem since they can run on either ULSD or LSD. Newer trucks cannot run on LSD.

 

The other night, I saw -3. I didnt idle at all on my 10. Truck started up just fine with no additives. Half tank of Wisconsin fuel.

Yes, but a compression ignition needs a free flowing fuel supply to function properly.
