And I think that she is wrong on the violation. As I am reading the regs, what she cited is for a steer axle.

That's in the periodic inspection section, here's the one of the list he shared:
No mention of being steer axle specific in that one. Notice it's not from axle to axle but cross-axle that allows no variation.
So you could pass a DOT annual with mismatch on the drive and then be ticketed for it? Gotta love the errors that creep in when regs get so bloated. -
What??? A Tennessee state computer not up to date? Hard to believe, I am sure they are fixin to get it updated.

He had gotten stopped and got a ticket for expired insurance in his car in 2013. He made a payment arrangement with the El Paso municipal court. The ticket was paid off and he was given paperwork from the court showing the fine was paid in full and the case was closed. For some reason the Tennessee got erroneous information that the ticket was outstanding and his Texas CDL was suspended. He had the paperwork on hand and a simple check with the Texas DPS would have shown his license was, in fact, not suspended. The Tennessee state trooper basically scoffed at our driver that their computers could possibly be wrong and put him OOS and wrote him a ticket for driving on a suspended license. Company hired a lawyer in Jackson that got the ticket dismissed.
Not sure how they got it wrong, the Texas DPS computers showed the ticket paid and his license was good.[emoji52] -

And you check them on a daily basis?
I'm tired of the super-trucker and goody-two-shoes who like to place every defect on the driver when I guarantee 95% of this board doesn't even complete half of a complete pre-trip inspection each and every day. There are mechanical failures that are completely beyond the control of the drivers sometimes. Manufacturing defects and the like, and yet, they'll all still hide behind, "well, it's on your truck, you should have known". And that's simply asinine.
And if you do, answer the second question. -
If we did a 'proper' pti, first, I don't think alot of us could actually crawl under the truck in the first place. Second, it'd be lunch time before we could roll out the parking lot. It'd take 2 mules and a small boy to drag the almost lifeless driver out from under the truck in the first senario. (Just slightly exaggerating, maybe)

When the employee at the DMV says to check if all the information is correct, one tends not to really look at the endorsements. After all, when one doesn't change anything, why would you? One would most likely check one's name and address and spelling of such, especially with the usual long line of irritable people, seemingly breathing down one's back. However, when one doesn't have the last 8 of the vin on the side of the truck, and then gets pulled into the Trinidad, CO portal, there is a very high likelihood that the trooper working the counter WILL notice that the IL dmv made a 'clerical error' and failed to include the tanker endorsement on one's CDL. Suddenly, one remembers being told to check to make sure that ALL the information is correct.
The identity of the 'one' shall be left anonymous, but I misteriously got a really quick flight home last week from CO.
Lesson. Even if you have been at it for 25 years, mistakes can and do happen. OopsHammer166 Thanks this. -

yes indeed, i will be honest - i do a "walk around/safety check" with my truck and chassis (i do intermodal). Do I actually go UNDER every chassis and ..... pretrip the whole frame and its momma? I do not. Is it a risk I take.. yes it is.. because... I will find something every single time. Intermodal chassis are complete ####. I know that, everyone that does it knows that.. I guess lesson learned? Will I learn from it, I dont know. Time will tell I guess. Hopefully If my truck ever decides to breakdown again, I pray its not WISCONSIN. ########. -
Just learn to speak Wisconsin-ese. Just say a few "Ya hey der" or "Nice boot ya got der" (boat) and you'll be fine. A "Cry eye!" won't hurt eeder. Lol.
