Do what I do. Go off duty every minute you legally can. I haven't run out of hours for the week in 5 years.Hulld and Holland Duck Thank this. -
True but I ment is small mistakes they hit you for.
-
But they don't. I have had several inspections with elogs showing me in violation a few minutes here and there. No problems with officers and in safety audits they also ignore those small mistakes, they look for habitual offenses not the occasional little screw up.Zeviander and Holland Duck Thank this.

root out the bad apple drivers would be a great start. We got to stay profesional! But that we have still goofballs giving the industry a bad rap!
-
Are saying that on elogs they ignore small mistakes?
They sure don't take that approach with paper.
I had a road side where I had forgotten to add the state to the description line when I had a change of duty status and they gave me a warning for form and manor and then tagged it to my csa score and assessed points on it.
I would of hated to see what they would have done if I was over hours. -
I can't say all officers do. But every one I've had an encounter with while having a small mistake has. Tho i also make detailed notes in the comments as to why the violation occurred. But I'm also not talking about being over by an hour on a regular basis either. its almost always just a few minutes, 10 at most. But once was a full 3 hours. The road was shut down due to an accident near the end of my day. Had to wait it out then go to first truck stop after it cleared. Wrote it in the comments, took a full 10 hour break then a few days later got a level 1 and verbally explained to the officer what happened and when as i was handing over my device to him. He scrolled through glancing over things day by day, stopping when he got to that incident and double checked that i took a full ten after getting parked. No ticket, no warning, nothing put on the inspection report to cause me csa points. Just a verbal well done attaboy type comment.

That would have fallen under this.
Question 5: How may a driver utilize the adverse driving conditions exception or the emergency conditions exception as found in §395.1(b), to preclude an hours of service violation?
Guidance:
An absolute prerequisite for any such claim must be that the trip involved is one which could normally and reasonably have been completed without a violation and that the unforeseen event occurred after the driver began the trip. -
Yes. And that's why detailed notes are made. Much easier to explain something if you have it noted down
-
So I would be curious to know if an elog didn't record something because of a snafu would they still give you a form and manor violation or warning?
