Exactly! I am hoping & praying that they get better for all of us. I REFUSE to haul for just over $1 a mile....have they seen the cost of diesel these days?!?!

Last one I pulled was $3 van load. 1.87 all miles. Not great but tolerable. 158 loaded miles, 250 total miles.

One of the problems I think is company load finders I'am leased to a company my dispatcher is a independent broker he gets fairly good rates most times the same coming and going company dispatchers will grab up whatever they can get back faster with to cover there loads other owner ops under them make sometime half as much on inbound.....I think there should be rates with min. Amounts set in the same manner as fuel sir charges and let the brokers and companies bid from there for and based on service

Yeah I think that any thing less than $2.00 per mile to the truck is dirt cheap anything less than $1.50 your paying to haul someone's freight....I have a load right now that's only $2500.00 for 1700 miles...my dispatchers not going to like me in the morning

$0.80 per mile fuel , $250-300 for-comprehensive ad another $800.00 if you pay your primary and cargo,$50.00 bobtail $0.05 per mile for tires , $300 per month give or take a week for service if you have a older truck $500 to $1000 per month for maitenence truck payment older like mine $1400.00 per month new $2000.00-$3000.00 Not to mention lots of other things like disability personal road exspences truck supply your looking at $1.20- $1.45 to run down the road now consider that most good companies are paying $0.40-$0.45 per mile for drivers.......what's your time worth in addition to that $1.20 to $1.45 per mile????

Any discussion of rates per mile w/o disclosing the miles operated and the number of days involved is pretty meaningless. I'm (my driver is) picking up a load this evening that pays $25.00 per loaded mile ... over $5.00 per mile including all deadhead ... and it's not worth doing! Just doing it because there's time available between his unload and his real reload (only takes 4 hrs start to finish) and every $200.00 is $200.00. Also keeps him busy (busy hands are happy hands) and he's not at home, which if he's going to have to layover is normally where that happens. There won't be enough time for a 34 restart even if he doesn't do it, so why not? It helps out a customer that gives me $7,000 loads pretty regularly, even thru the winter which I like. Anyway, the point is that rates per mile, by themselves don't mean much.

Not 100% positive but Brokers do scam way too much off the top. If they get a load from a shipper that pays $3.00 a mile will post if for $2 a mile and it goes on from there. By the time everyone gets a piece of the pie the trucks gets very little. Brokers are killing the profits in trucking. I refuse to move a load from CH Robinson.
As far as rail? . Well, Burlington Santa Fe can haul a trailer from Chicago to LA for $250 bucks per and make a profit. Why pay a driver and go through the cost when rails have no restrictions.Ever count the trailers n a train . Hundreds of them and each one is a potential job for a driver. However on the rails No DOT inspections, no scales very little weather to worry about .No pot holes little maintenance.
