There's only one logical one word answer to the OP's question........Obama. That's what happened!

CARB happened. The EPA happened. The FMCSA happened. Lots of things happened, and stuff rolls downhill and there are consequences along the way and especially when it hits bottom, which is where most truckers and OO's can be found.

I cant believe in five pages of post, an important concept was overlooked to explain the drop in rates. If you pay attention to trends in trucking April is usually a slow month for freight. With that being said trucking is a supply and demand business. Less freight means more available trucks thus lower prices. I might be overgeneralizing but a lot of the places I haul to do inventory in April so they reduce the amount of inbound freight. Not sure if this is true across the board but it seems to be worthy of a honorable mention when discussing a drop in rates.

My previous 2 April's were blockbuster months. This one is A-ok considering I've only hit it for a week and a half. I've had 3 week stretches that weren't as good. I still say keep throttling for the money. When they quit calling is when it's not there.

I believe I am seeing my best rates since 2006 and for a longer period of time than the last bubble. Still being paid to dead head 550 miles. I've lost count of how many weeks this has been going on and too tired to look it up.....4....5....6 weeks? It's nuts. "At least you have trucks available so what the hell just give me a number"

Same here. The rates I see from the e-mails I get from shippers are definitely going up. Many times asking "What will it take to move this?" or "Where are the trucks?".
Dry van load this week 1030 miles for $3100. Last week one from a broker at 250 miles for $800. These are better than most of the van loads I see but most all the van loads in my area are well over $2.00.
Flat bed loads on a regular basis $3.00 a mile for 300-500 mile runs. 232 miles for $1000. 160 miles for $650. These are some of the better ones.
I get e-mails on flatbed loads all day long with most running $2.50 per mile or more on runs of 300 to 1000 miles.
These are shipper direct loads without brokers except for the one I mentioned. Regular flatbed loads mostly no tarp.
No I will not give you my contacts. -
