OK here's what I see. They want the two 1-5 periods because they don't want us sleeping in the daytime. (Fmsca just had a study done regarding this.) Thing is its gonna force a lot of drivers to do just that. Example start driving at 0515. Drive / on duty till 1700. 10 off then start driving at 0300 drive/on duty till 1500. Then start driving at 0100..and it keeps going. Am I wrong here?

My thoughts thru all this discussion. It is truly sad that now a driver cannot make it or is going to be so severely affected with the new 34 reset rule compared to when we had no reset at all. What is all that saying? That the driver has allowed themselves to be lulled into thinking that they need to reset to make a living and the carrier has adjusted things so that it is a self fulfilling idea? Maybe time to evaluate what is going on and see if a carrier switch is in order.

you are dead on cowpie, it like the mega carriers , especially dedicated accounts, they do the schedule allowing someone 34 hours off, then right back out.

heck if i was a company man i would rejoice, you can work it for more time off.

as for having to start at 5:00 am just oversleep and start at 7am. , cowpie1, with the lower mileage rates guys have been trained exactly as you say, they have to run 11 hours straight and do a reset to make a living.

could be the greatest scam ever perpetuated.

this whole thing is confusing to drivers who do it every day, can you imagine how barney fife is going to mess it up?

and if we drive teams, that would make a lot of people happy, everyone but solo drivers

i still cant understand how a team driver gets better sleep at 10hrs of bouncing around than i get at 7 straight peaceful hours of sleep at rest

so now "recap" is required on the logs? because technically, if you recapped at the beginning of the week, and you figured, it may be better to recap at the end of the week, who is gonna know which is which?

My understanding is that the hours will continue to add until a 34 hr break that includes 2 periods of 0100-0500, and is marked as a recap or reset in the remarks section. It appears that a driver can shut down for the time of a reset as often as they like, but can only count 1 34 HR break every 7 days as a reset. That's only roughly 5 1/2 days between the reset periods.

If there ever comes a day that solo drivers can no longer be solo drivers, there could very well be a SEVERE truck driver shortage. Many people operate and function much better as SOLO people vs. having to be with someone for long stretches of time.
