I apologize, I realize today, the mechanical aspect of what those gauges actually stand for, is being lost. Trucks being what they are today, one may as well just have a light, "STOP TRUCK NOW" and let a service person handle it. Years ago, a gauge would tell you of impending doom, today, I'm not sure a driver would know what an increase in oil temp or low turbo boost or high fuel pressure, would mean anyway or what to do about it.

Believe it or not your correct. That is why the trucks are going to digital dashes. Free up dash space and bury the gauges.
why most modern drivers don’t know what they are or even look at them when they are individually placed on dash.
Like a District rep for KW told me. They have got to dumb everything down so much.
Fleets demand it to appeal to a wider demographic of new drivers. They want the trucks to be oversized cars in regard to controls and instrumentation.
Then the rest of us have to suffer.
Drivers use to hate me as a shop foreman
/maintenance director. They would ask questions about some minor ########. I would tell them there is an operators manual in the truck. Go familiarize yourself.

You would of thought I asked to ruck up for a 39 mile ruck March.
The amount of lazy and motivation and common sense is astounding to me.

My '72 Pete( in avatar) had like 22 gauges, and everyone worked. But in '72, trucks were a lot different, like I say, a heating rear axle or trans. could mean trouble, the reason for the gauge in the 1st place. Today, you're right, trucks have progressed to the point, an axle will probably never overheat, or whatever, and like you say, today's driver has more important things, like will they make it before the hours run out, or, where will I park now?

    Blue jeans Thanks this.

I have 21 gauges in my western star
And the reason I buy western star or w900LKW or Pete 389 is because of the gauges. And you can get them without the nanny ########

Blue jeans and 201 Thank this.
