We have night and day schedules. Nights are easier but when you're married with children, I can't let selfishness get in the way. I could make an extra $300 a week or more but I have more important things to do. Even if it's just helping with one math question or signing the kids agenda.
Mrh2008 Thanks this. -

I drive pretty much any time, but I get tired in the afternoon, because I leave as soon as it works out and the drive to the city and that makes leaving before midnight necessary for some loads and after 0200 for others, and some you have to drive 2 periods with a break in between to go roughly 1150 miles and deliver about 30 hours after you can leave. I never get to Miami, but that run requires 3 periods of driving with 2 breaks between.
Haul live chickens if you like the hours you prefer, that works out pretty close to what you want, load at night and bring em back without stopping much.
Disadvantage to that timing is more deer around dusk and dawn. -
Thanks for the responses, guys. I assume I'll just find my niche depending on my load when I get out there. Yep, less morons on the road at night, but those deer can pop out at any moment.

My day begins at 8-9pm and ends 7-8am I usually get in 450-600 miles a night

There are times when you can make strategic decisions regarding when you want to drive. For example, right now I'm sitting in Hagerstown, MD and my 10 hour break will be up at 3:30 tomorrow morning. My load delivers at 11:00 pm in Rome, NY, so I need to run up I-81 to Syracuse and catch I-90 east. This is about 370 miles.
Option 1 - take a very long break and start tomorrow afternoon.
Option 2 - start early am and drive a few hours to get through Harrisburg before rush hour, then stop and take an 8 or even a 10 hour break somewhere shy of delivery.
Option 2 would minimize the number of hours I'll use out of my 70. Depending on how far I get from an early am start I might be able to deliver and get another dispatch to run all night. Then I could pull into one of those east coast truck stops late morning and have wide open parking. Today I shut down here in Hagerstown at 5:30 pm and was lucky to snag one of the last parking spots available (unfortunately next to a guy with the LOUDEST engine idling I've heard since the '70's...)...

When I ran wild and had no set schedule, I did what was best for me. Normally took long breaks and started after breakfast.
