Here is a list of just a few basic things that all carriers will need.
1. CDL and SS card. ( you are applying for a job so you need a ss card and you have to have a cdl.)
2. 10 yr work history. ( I know the application only goes back so many. I go over applications and dot requirements is 10 year driving and non driving positions.)
3. long and short form medical. ( some carriers require you to take a new physicals, others such as where I work if you have both and they are current you only have to take the pre employment drug screen. in which case if you can't pass one just don't come till you can it is your career.)
4. enough money to survive on for atleast 1 week.
5. MOTOR Carrier Road Atlas. (OLD RELIABLE. you will need this.)
6. a weeks worth of close and personal item's such as soap, tooth paste tooth brush, deodorant.
This is not a complete list just some of the basics you will need.![]()

nice idea...not such a great list. ask your company. imo 1 wk of money is not enough. left off birth cert (better bring it), passport/card,SLEEPING BAG (unless you are not going out with a trainer, then bedding is ok), alarm clock, laptop if you have it, gps if owned, cell phone.... im sure im still leaving stuff off but these are all pretty much imperative (cept for the gps, and passcard may not be required by your company if they arent going to canada at all). 4-5 weeks worth of food money is the least id bring if i were going out with a trainer. 2 weeks if going directly solo.
dweedle Thanks this. -
I just gave a basic list. I know 1 wk of money is not enough, that is why is says at least 1 wk. I did miss bedding of course but as far as GPS leave it home if your a student learn how to use a MOTOR CARRIER ATLAS first. I do orientations an go over applications daily. as far as passports and twic cards and birth certificates they are not mandatory at all companies. but good idea. ty.

Not that ppl would forget clothing, but at least ask if you may need steel toed boots, gloves, warm jacket. If your going flatbed I would get a pair of coveralls, easy to take off and keeps your clothing clean. ( try them on over your clothing).
Shower bag, one big enogh for your clean then dirty cloths and personal hygene items. Use a duffle for your clothing, doubles nicely as a pillow. Get a laundry bag for the dirty stuff. Everything should fit in duffle except warm jacket.dweedle Thanks this.
