You answered your own question. Consider the price Mr. Denny paid for not continuing on his way. There are countless examples of actions taken by people that injured or killed others in defense of their own life, legitimately so.

I think the chances of "accidently" driving into the middle of an active riot are slim. The cops tend to set up roadblocks to keep that from happening.

Here in St Louis, there's probably a better chance of coming up on a traffic jam due to groups shutting down an interstate for a short time. There's not much difference between that and coming up on a wreck.

As far as a mob deciding on the spur of the moment to try to pull you out of the truck...in many cities you face that possibility most days regardless of what you're driving. What would you do if you were in a car with your family and somebody tried to carjack you?

I'm seeing quite a few flip answers to your question here. Fact is though, you do pose an excellent question, and it is one that every driver needs to think about. You may say, "It'll never happen to me, because I plan too well." Guess what bucko, there is a "point of beginning" to every riot, confrontation, demonstration, whatever. All the planning in the world is NOT going to prevent you from being caught in something that is a "spontaneous occurrence."

Of course if it is something that is already going on, you stay the hell away from it. Oh I see, you have a drop or pick right in the middle of it? Well, gee Mr. Dispatcher, if you need it done that badly, get out from behind your desk and come do it, BECAUSE I'M NOT GOING IN THERE.

Drivers should keep their cab doors locked. I don't give a darn how big and how tough you think you are, somebody comes boiling through that passenger door, you've got a problem. Sure, the first one may go down, but what about the fifteen behind him. Doors locked and windows up.

Now then, we've seen words to the effect of "just run over a few of them." While I tend to lean this direction myself, there are things to consider here. What good is it going to do, (other than to make you feel better just before you get beaten to death,) to run over a few of them, if the roadway is blocked with overturned vehicles and debris? Do you really think you are going to push your way through that type of road block? Very doubtful, with today's "PLASTIC" trucks! Sure you may get a ways there. But if you are in a situation where you are on a city street, you don't have the speed and momentum built up to "knock" very many out of the way. Sooner or later, your truck is gonna say, "uh-uh, cain't go no mo, Joe."

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that sometimes the excrement hits the oscillator and it is aimed right at you. Obviously, your best defense is to "just be somewhere else." And planning can help that, but may not prevent it all together. BUT there are things you can do with planning.

For one thing, if you are working an area that "makes you uncomfortable," plan for as many different routes in and out, as are available. Yeah, it will take you a bit longer with your pre-plan, but it also could save your life. Remove your head from your rectum, open those baby blue eyes, and know what is going on around you!

But if you find yourself in an "ALAMO" situation, in spite of everything else, know that you are going to be badly hurt and more than likely killed. At that point, you have a choice to make.

I'm a firm believer in self defense. I am armed. Period, end of story. The old saw about "being tried by 12 instead of carried by 6 DOES APPLY. I am going to take as many with me as I can. Period, end of story.

If you happen to be a pacifist, and don't believe in hurting or killing anybody no matter what, well I guess I sort of respect that ideology. Not to say that I understand it, but I respect it. Then you might as well "go as peacefully" as you can. (IT AIN'T GONNA BE "PEACEFUL" nor will it be "pretty."

Other things to think about, are the different "weapons" that you have at your disposal. No, it won't get you out of a riot, but you can hold some of them back, maybe. Fire extinguisher. USE IT. THEN USE IT AS A CLUB. Tire thumper. There is a reason we have nicknamed them "Lumper Thumpers." Any tools that you have can become handy weapons. (Of course the same applies to the crowd, after they take them away from you. You will be on the receiving end of things then.)

Sometimes, there just are no good answers. And this should be right at the top of the list as being one of those times.

NOTE: several posts were made between the time I started working on this post, and the time I got it up. NOTHING in here is directed at any particular poster.

It's kind of the old adage "if you're going to present a gun, you better use it and use it effectively". If you're going to get all gung-ho and start running over people, you better be prepared to run over A LOT of people and manage a complete exodus, or you're done.

Um, no. You get down to the heart of the matter, there really isn't.

Thug strong-arm robs a store. Thug attacks cop and tries to grab cop's gun. Thug reaps the entirely predictable consequences of his actions. Urban aboriginals and college kids with daddy issues seize on the excuse to loot and burn. Race-baiting scum like Jackson and Sharpton, and the rest of the LameStream Media, practically orgasm with glee at the thought of still being relevant. Politicians of all stripes cynically ponder how to turn the events to their own political advantage.

And meanwhile...the decent Americans of all colors move one step closer to having had quite enough of this crap. End well, this will not. :biggrin_25513:
