Why should the SHIPPER be responsible for the short comings of truck operators.
The shipper only knows amount of product to be shipped and if Billy Bob comes in with his long nosed, heavy motor, heavy 18 speed, double frame truck etc, etc, and is too heavy, why is that the shippers fault?
And has been mentioned On Board Scales. Around $350 you get the weight on your phone. Don't even have to get out of your truck.
What to do when no scales are available?

"What to do when no scales are available?"
Unless you are boondocking, 95% of the time you will be within 20 miles or less, of a CAT Scale. Simply "Google, Bing, Duck Go", CAT Scale near me. It really is not Rocket Surgery. -
Download Trucker Path, it can bail you out when a CAT scale isn't available, and as already noted get a truckstop guide.
