If it were me, I would choose W/S.
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
I would steer clear (no pun intended) of all of them. Watkins isn't a bad company actually I have heard many good things about them, but I highly, highly recommend you go with a trainer. Especially this time of year. I strongly suggest you find a smaller more personable company that will treat you like a person. Go with the companies that aren't advertising as much. These are the companies with lower driver turnover rates. This means that the drivers are happy working for them. My biggest reason for not going with the mega-carriers is because of the dispatcher. Your dispatcher is your key to your paycheck! The dispatchers at the mega-carriers are responsible for hundreds of drivers and you are just a number to them. Smaller companies=more personable dispatchers=more money. Try this website I think it will help you greatly

Thanks for the input guys... Ive mulled over my decision and Ive decided I will be going to Swift... I will be in Phoenix for Orientation on Jan 5th... Hope all goes well. Time will tell. If I get thru orientation and get a trainer I will start a new post and try to document the time with the trainer. Thanks again.

Though i think there is a few that wants you to be with somebody for x amount of months, six weeks seems better.
If i only had only ten days before i got a truck i don't know if i could have done it

Ok, so scottied67 is correct it is still the same I just completed my classroom and range training at Swift's academy in Millington headed to road training for a week then test out for CDL on Monday the 3rd. It is your decision ultimately and if your the least bit on the fence about your skills go with the Mentor if not go with W/S that is a suggestion only. I will be going out on the road with my mentor about the same time as you are. My understanding on Mentor availability is flatbedder's are in short supply and the wait time is longer then others. I will also mention Swift is a truckload carrier and W/S is mostly LTL so would you rather drive or unload/drive.
Keep the greasy side down and drive safely what ever you do. -
You don't need luck, well maybe a little luck. I am out with my mentor, currently in Laredo waiting on service for the truck. If you get a bad mentor, one that you feel is not teaching you or not willing to answer questions, please call and see about getting a new one. Your seat time will transfer to the new mentor. i lucked up and got a good one.
