@Penumbra ..#6 in your list is exactly what I was getting at, starting in too high a gear can do ya in everytime, until you get used to the whole shebang.
I've gotta rock a nap before my 0200 departure; more tomorrow. Sounds like you had a great day of progress.
Thanks, @88 Alpha for the thread rescue, yet again. You rock.
G'night, and peace; and KUDOS, O/P~

I know you don't like it, but years from now, you will appreciate that you at least trained in a manual transmission so you know how to drive one.
Who knows, your 3rd job from now may be an opportunity to drive local and they only have those big, square hooded large cars that the sleepers have been removed BUT they are all 13 speeds. Since you would be vaguely familiar with shifting it, you could accept the position and get use to being at home more and shifting a few more gears. -
It’s the darn downshifting! Upshifting isn’t a problem, it’s the downshifting lol and the fact my mentor evidently doesn’t believe in a shower!G13Tomcat, dwells40, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Downshift... easier to tell than to do.
Allow her to die off in top gear as the RPMs drop below say 1100. Get her out of gear before she bucks on you...
Slap your hammer and get engine back above 1600 somewhere near that RPM is your next downgear waiting for you. You should fall right into it. No scratching allowed. -
Your trucking journey is you. All you. I had one trainer that was pretty bad. I quit. Boss yelled at me by the car, your training aint done yet you don't quit. I told em a very bad word combined with off and said that the trainer needs some sort of vacation time to get all the complaining out of him for all of our sakes.
(He was given 2 weeks off and a round trip ticket to anywhere in the USA.)
I cannot share what materials I got off this one. Its really not for a Politically correct internet that gets easily offended today. They would have a posse on me before too long should I write some of his material that was very funny back in the day. But painfully limited because it is only funny one way and a hundred other ways a problem. -
Oh well, it’s two weeks, I can survive it. Then I can shower every day lolFlaSwampRat, 88 Alpha, G13Tomcat and 1 other person Thank this. -
FlaSwampRat, G13Tomcat and x1Heavy Thank this.

Ha. Dont be a princess that needs to shower every day. Get some Dude Wipes or equivalent from WalMart, etc. This doesn't help you now, but when your solo get a 5gal container that how a spout on it and fill it with water. I keep mine in my passenger floorboard and use it to wash up after loading/tarping (flatbed). Get some cheap body wash to keep in a travel bottle and you'll be surprised at how a 5min rinse can make ya feel better.
As for him "making" you drive a certain way, tell him to stop. If you're comfortable with a 2 car gap, you hold it and you work on your shifting.
3rd if you're comin down 35, construction traffic sucks right now. Also watch traffic on loop 410 in SA, there is perpetual construction there. Otherwise you're clear headed south.FlaSwampRat and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.
