Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could kind of give me a heads up on what to expect when I get sent out with a trainer after orientation. Any info would be appreciated. I am going with Roehl Transport.

Expect to be gone for 4 to 6 weeks depending on company. During those weeks, your trainer will guide you on several things such as backing, shifting in traffic, mountains, various weather conditions and so forth. You will also be taught how to slide tandems, how to set up for turns and backing, how to properly log, how to check in at shippers and receivers, how to operate the card reader at the fuel island. You will also be shown the proper way to do a pre trip and how to handle a situation that you may encounter when you re on your own. Your trainer is there to help you and answer any questions that you may have before you go on your own. Most importantly your trainer "SHOULD" be in the passenger seat training, not in the bunk, and your trainer SHOULD HAVE PATIENCE as well. Don t be afraid to request a new trainer if the one you have you can t learn from or get along with. With a good trainer by the time you get off the truck, you should be confident enough to take the final testing and pass with flying colors

Okay, good stuff to know. The Roehl recruiter says I will have 8 days orientation then 13 days on the road with a trainer before coming back to the yard and being issued my own truck. I should have it pretty easy on the driving except for mountains, caves and snow conditions as I am coming out of a 20 week CDL training program and (not to toot my horn) I'm doing a lot better than most at the school. I know I still have a lot to learn but I'm very comfortable in the driver seat with traffic and all. My group has been hit with a tornado while out driving so we got some good experience on that one.

Anyone know Roehls starting CPM and training pay? I've spoke to a recruiter three times and she seems to avoid the questions?

30 cpm is what I got fresh out of school almost 2 years ago. The rest of the info seems correct. You'll probably get a lil mixed of everything except for snow. You'll hit some grades and get into some tight spots.

Pretty good, starting out is kinda slow but once you settle in and get familiar with our shipper/cons you'll make more with experience. As long as you do what the expect of you and can make better money quicker than most of these companies.
