1. Use your Atlas.
2. Use your company directions.
3. Google maps your destination so you can see it before you arrive. This will also give you a chance to find an out. Meaning if you miss the customer what roads are you going to take to get back.
4. Verify written directions with your GPS.
5. Call the customer. The name on your bills may not match the sign out front. Plus they can update you on custruction and detours.
Even with all this you will still get lost occasionally. Just dont panic. -
I just got a tanker job. Should be interesting. Not OTR. Regional, so I'll be home every other day. Looking forward to finally getting some tanker experience. I've been interested in it for a really long time now.

I believe it. I don't use it enough to have a real firm opinion one way or the other.

Hey ethos not trying to derail your thread just curious about a couple things. Why do the tanker tractors and trailers for Schneider run super singles where as us van guys run duals? Just thought that was odd, figured it would make more sense for Schneider to go all one way or the other.
Do ya'll ever have to scale loads? I know you can't slide your tandems, but is there a chance of being over gross or do you just know the empty weight of your truck and trailer and know exactly how much product they put in the can?
How do your pumps work? Are they PTO driven or electric? Do they pressurize the tank to force the product out, or does it use an impeller style pump to suck it out?
Just curious and hardly ever run across one of you guys to ask. -
What is the shortest amount of time you had a guy on your truck to train (that already had their CDL) or is it a set amount of time regardless of your situation (CDL holder or newbie) -
In the rare event we are overloaded we just pump it back off.
Pumps are PTO and you can either use a pump or air it off. Depends on the product and what the customer wants. Air is always preferred as then you have two less hoses to wash and of course, no pump.
I will be in Gary tomorrow morning. If your there you can ask all the questions you want. Be good to meet Big Oranges favorite author.Last edited: Jun 25, 2013
Jrdude5 Thanks this. -
I know one trainer, a very senior one, passed a guy after one day. He said he did everything perfect and was one of the best drivers he has ever seen. Of course this trainer has probably had hundreds of students.superpet39 Thanks this.
