Training/teaming for a few weeks after completing orientation. Likely a less than superb truck once you start solo. Hassles from dispatch, delays at shippers and receivers, the occasional breakdown, DOT wanting to take your every dollar, inclement and poor weather, traffic jams, inconsiderate drivers, sleep issues, plenty of time away from home, a lack of respect from the general public, crappy parking, trucks blocking the fuel isle, layovers, Qualcomm units, etc.

There are plenty of other issues as well. But for all the negative drawbacks, I'd still take this job over an office any day of the week. I love it out here.

You want to start your career making good money from the start, not poverty wages. After CDL school, apply with SVTN. This company sometimes hires new CDL grads and has a terminal in St. Gabriel. If you don't want tanker, then go flatbed. Go to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and work on those. You will have more job opportunities with higher pay if you get TWIC and a passport. Louisiana is a good state for tanker and flatbed opportunities.
