You have to think about this... who would want to work for someone as a 1099 subcontractor, with no health insurance, workers comp, paid vacation, 401K ect... When most reputable companies offer all these things. My buddy owns 8 trucks, and he hires the ones that no one wants. It works out for both, as he gets a driver, they get a second chance

Well, here on TTR, nobody ( company drivers ) works for less than $2500 week.

Weather the wheels are turning or not.

Then they need at least $75 day per diem for food, and another $100 per day for lodging.

They also need a minimum of 3 days a week hometime. Most are home nightly.

This is also what everyone here, that cares about their drivers, pays there company drivers.

I should have said that the driver is home every night. The route is not dedicated at this time but we only go to 8-10 different stops. No touch freight. Night shift work for now. No doubles or long wait times. Pretty good routes.

Yeah, when you put it that way, it does sound kind of silly. It just boils down to, family folks, who want a life outside of the truck, tend to gravitate towards local company jobs. The truck is just a job, and they leave it at the end of the day. Company benefits also have families in mind. O/O's, ( and I'm accused of "generalizing") usually tend to be single, loner types, where the job proper isn't so critical, the truck is everything, and they are willing to take cuts, or lesser benefits to keep that lifestyle. I'm sure, to an O/O, and I was one, an in frame major or new tires is much more important than health ins. Can't get away with that with a family. Companies that hire O/O's know this, and gets them out of a lot of hassle. The down side of O/O's, and again, NOT ALL, but family, company folks just make more stable workers. O/O's care about themselves, and rightly so, but to me, there was a sense of pride being a company driver in one of a small towns biggest and therefore, most respected companies.

60/40 split, the person who pays for fuel gets 60%.

I am an O/O and I have nothing against company drivers, as I was one myself.I made the move as I wanted to make more money. Being an O/O is not for everyone. But I do think you are generalizing. Actually a lot of O/O are marred, and their wife carries them on her health insurance. An O/O can also be local. I do agree with the part about family. Trucking is not a 9 to 5 job, and whether local or otr we make a lot if sacrifices.

You ain't gonna get me if I have to be home every night. Paying for a home is gonna cut into my pay too much.

1500.00 IS PRETY GOOD FOR 5 DAYS WORK. AND I THINK 1099 WOULD WORK WITH THAT. NOT BAD AT ALL FOR LOCAL WORK.
