Never heard this before, but husband said last year there was a squack about the colors of windshield wash and if it wasn't blue, DOT was writing tickets for it. I can't find a ruling on it anywhere so I don't know if it is just a DOT making up a rule or what.

I've seen "environmentally friendly " blue colored wash in California that was not rated below 32F so I have no idea how DOT could tell by color.

Being "colored" doesn't necessarily mean too much, but being "clear" says quite a bit.

He was saying the tickets were written if the color was not blue, that would include rainx and all the other colors that are not blue. I suppose clear would mean there isn't anything but water in it.

Prestone is yellow and good for -32F. With so many compliant trucks these days, they gotta get their revenue somehow......

Tex- go to Overtons.com. They have a more modern unit made by Peak. 160 watt dashbord mount defroster. they don't make the ones I have anymore. this looks like a nice tool. on a swivel. have two wired together should take care of any ice. Mike

One morning, in my Volvo, I turned on the wipers to spray some washer fluid...

The motor just kept straining as the wipers were still frozen! To the point of ripping the gears up. Several hundred dollar repair!

Now I physically knock them to make sure they are loose beforehand.

Those recommending alcohol, it does work, but use it only as a last resort because alcohol dries up the rubber on your blades and washer hoses which makes them crack and wear faster tha.n they normally would.
