I am possibly selling a little Suzuki Sidekick to a fellow in Cleveland, Oh. The buyer and I are both looking at the best prices available. I got on a website and put in the information zip to zip to get quotes, and am getting SLAMMED with emails and phone calls with prices any where from $580 to $1300. Some wanting me to "lock in" a price with my credit card. It has been a while since I have shipped a car, but I can't see how any trucking company can do it for as little as $580. Funny some of the companies that are the cheapest say they don't want an up front deposit. Anyway I wasn't sure if I should post company names or not, so did not. Are there any scammers out there in this field? Any advice is appreciated.

Auto brokers are some of the biggest scam artist in trucking. They deal with the general public (POV's) that want the cheapest rate but dont have any experience and end up paying more in the end whether it's giving a deposit and the broker not refunding their deposit or the broker up charging you to actually get your car moved. It's hard to make the right choice when your not in the car hauling industry. If you want to p m me some names I'll see if there's any on that list that I know are honest brokers. You've already figured it out but your vehicle isn't going to get moved for $580. I'm thinking closer to $1,000. I don't run out west because the rates are too cheap. Even $1,000 is cheap for just one car but people do it. I'll be happy to help you the best I can. I can't stand these con artist brokers.

Umm, photo document everything? You could even be a smart ### and send a copy of the pictures in the car when it leaves (on the BOL).

Get quotes from local companies. They might give you a ballpark for what broker prices are accurate.
There are car haulers, but moving companies will haul a car too. A HHG company might be better for hauling a single car than an auto transporter. It makes for a nice back haul.
