It was denim in my time. Coveralls came from Dickies, the work people. Bad weather gear and winter gear would be sourced locally.
Sun burns are free. Shows when you have been rolling westbound a day baking on one side. Lidocaine first aid spray took care of that.
Steel toe always. You get used to it. Just remember there are still certain situation in which the steel would still bounce off that steel toe and guillotine the foot. Some of you saying no steel toes inside food distribution, don't be stupid. Drop one of them 100 pound pallets down on your feet would put you into the hospital for the bone doctor to set em. Sometimes they shatter when the fork lift shoves on em wrong and drives splinters bigger than your fingers through the feet or legs.
Leather jacket for everything else except any temperature that has a minus in front of it.
I recall using thinsulate gloves exclusively inside the cold storage places and outside during winter storms and situations where it/s -50 and you still need to fuel. A good oil treated storm outfit for the sea so that the wind driven rains from the ocean don't stab you over and over again and big enough to accept a winter outfit underneath so that the cold wind don't get to cut through you or falling ice from the van doors or dock roofs won't cause you to get a thousand stitches in the ER.
And a stihl chain saw with the approprite fuels, lube etc in one side box so that the storm you are evaucting from that lays down trees bigger than you are thick don't trap you. To this day I still carry one becuase there has been times ice storms have washed out our state road sometimes requiring a world war one era filling in of wash with logs to cross a non 4x4 car over.Ruthless, Dave_in_AZ and ShooterK2 Thank this. -
I keep steel toes in the box and wear them when needed. Otherwise it's sneakers, shorts or jeans, and a polo in the summer.
As long as what you wear fits, you'll be fine.
Too loose/ too tight doesn't work on guys.
Keep your hair clean and your beard trimmed or just shave daily and above all else----> be personable. If you're a dick, that's the only thing people will remember. -
I wear steel toed boots, jeans (usually Wrangler), t-shirt or button-up (FR when needed), and a ball cap, all day, all year.
