Prior to having an APU with a bunk heater, I used the 12v mattress pad with a heavy sleeping bag open on top. I would sometimes wake up when the outside temps were in the teens, and the inside temp had fallen into the low 30's, and fire up the engine for an hour or so. Doing than would be enough for the entire night.

I honest to God feel bad for you drivers that have to work somewhere that your truck will not idle, what a terrible thing that is, If my truck was like that I would be so miserable all of the darn time...

I may drive an old beat up peterbilt, with a small 48" bunk and no storage space, but it has no qualcom/gps and no parameters have been changed on the engines computer so she'll idle aslong as I want to...and that's what makes me a happy truck driver, being comfortable.

I don't understand why most like to idle so much.
I sleep very badly in an idling truck(noise and vibration)
Bunk heaters have been standard here for more then 20y and i use it a lot but never while sleeping.

Get a quality cover (goosefeathers are the best but expensive).
I sleep in the truck the same as at home,no heating in the bed room and a cover that keeps me warm enough all night.(in normal surcomstances)
And make shure you get enough fresh air.

    my 2 cents

DAF, I don't idle all of the time, but I have the option to idle if I please to. I don't have a bunk heater in my truck, but I wish I did I would surely idle a little less than I do...

Have you considered purchasing a space blanket available in the sporting goods section of Walmart or other places and placing it on top of the blanket to reflect your own body heat. Cheap help and no electricity.
