Well guys, if ya wanna be cold,,,be cold!
I'm not,,, and have never had a cabin search (had 3) where the officer had a problem with my heater. Over the years I've run catalitic propane fired Olympian brand, & electric cube heaters powered by my gasoline fired generator. Guess the olympian wasn't "portable" (screwed to the wall), but the electric one is. Wonder if ya bolted the sucker to the floor would it still be considered "portable"? If I'm reading all this right, fmcsa says you can have a wood/charcoal fired heater providing it's in a barrel with a locking lid. (Kinda sounds like a bbq to me) I can't find where fmcsa says where that could be used.
IMO this is ridiculous. My advice would be..don't be cold. If it's safe in an R/V, I doubt that anyone would bother you.

However,,,as was proved above, it's illegal so don't do it.

It was at the Minnesota scale if that helps. They are the worst out there for things like this.
