Mac makes a 72k and a 80k in 4'. Reitnouer big bubba is a good trailer also 72k in 4'. That's my top 2 picks. Benson 724 is also a nice coil hauler rated for 72k in 4'. Extreem is new to the market and are claiming some big numbers in 4' I wouldn't even consider a trailer rated for 52k in 4' if you plan on doing it on a regular bases. No matter what trailer you buy it will take its toll.
If your going to haul 40k plus coils on a regular bases (once a month or everyday) be sure to get the coil package. If not you will eventually crush the cross members hauling big coils shotgun unless you use extra large racks that get the lumber and weight out on the rails. I would suggest large racks even with coil package if you haul them shotgun everyday.
what trailer for hauling coils?

Would an aluminum trailer be a lot better than steel? I'm just over 30k with the steel trail-eze half full of fuel

Normally extra tie downs, and extra crossmembers in loading area.

@MACK E-6 see my 1996 built 1995 fruehauf has 12 inch cross member front to rear and 32 pair of chain pop ups in 42 foot trailer with 110k gvw. beams. Now its out of date compared to newer stuff, but was built to haul iron and still is 24 years later. It was built to haul coils, not a trailer that can haul a coil.
Different ball game when you haul them all the time. -
Coil package for a trailer can be;
Crossover deck supports on closer centers, usually 12 inches. at the point of weight concentration. This can be an area from 4 to 8 feet in length, and sometimes more, in the center of the trailer. Some add more deck outriggers to support deck edges in that area. Some manufacturers add extra frame rail braces or use a heavier grade on the existing ones. Reinforcements in the deck floor over the 4 to 8 foot area designated for weight concentration. If the main beams are steel, how they are heat treating them. Aluminum has a different methodologies. Where and how the bow is put into the trailer.
Just a few things that go into a coil packagejamespmack, MACK E-6, Al. Roper and 2 others Thank this. -
I haven't hauled a coil in over 20yrs, and the last single heavy coil was on a 45-75 steel stretch, Fontaine. If I was hauling single coils every load, I would definitely want a spread axle to keep the weight from being centered on the trailer.
