Yes, I have hauled several coils over 52k lbs. so would be at least 2k lbs over gross. Never had a problem in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin or Kentucky getting one.

If I remember right in Ohio it has to be from an “approved facility”. Of course they’re letting us permit divisible loads now.

In Alabama, they'll permit heavy coils. There were some guys running from Decatur to B'ham, 2-3 loads a day with 3 axle steps and RGN's that were hauling 62-65k single coils. Overweight permitted. Not sure what they listed as their gross, and probably using a blanket permit.

Ohio allows overweight permits for coils as well. I occassionally pull over weights out of Cleveland and the Youngstown area heading toward Indiana.

I use to do it all the time. Buy a 90 day permit. $500 and you could gross 120,000 on 5 axles. Had to stay in Ohio though and on designated routes

Interesting setup tho. Seems like a cool could get secured strictly from ground level, n have a lot lower center of gravity tho.

I've have seen that trailer going up and down I-75 several times. Never been up close to it, but I recognize it from the freightliner wheels. Most of the coil trailers I see that are that old are rusty as hell. Now days they mostly use tri axles around here.
