    - I need an 18m3 tipper to transport gravel. I will assamble the tipper on the truck body or have the truck pull the tipper (with wheels).

I was told I would always need a 6 wheel truck with a tipper body. So would a 40ton 6X4 configration would do the job?

    - Whats the cheapest configration would do the job for an 18m3 tipper?

Since most of us here are US based and are not going to be familiar with the specs you are asking about or the weight regulations that you operate under, may I suggest that you look uo a site called www. Truck. net and look in there under it's UK Forums. Probably someone there will be able to answer it for you. We'd love to help here, but it's just not an area where many of us have useful knowledge.

Okay, by a strange quirk of fate, it looks like I can properly answer your question. In your part of the world, it looks like a 9-10 metre tipper (dump) body is typically mounted on a standard dump chassis with a single steer axle and a tandem set of drive axles. To get to an 18-20 metre unit, it looks like you have to have a 6x4 tractor pulling at least a tandem axled trailer, probably in the 24 to 30 foot range, or about 8-10 metres long. you will have to check the local weight laws where you are and double check this for sure, but from here this looks like the combination you will need. It is possible to have multiple axles under a straight frame truck and make the weight laws, but without the local info on that I can;t even begin to say that would work where you are. Dump trucks (tippers) are the most specialized local trucks and what is most effective in one place may not be legal the next major jurisdiction over.

The reason I was able to find that answer is that on my last cruise before retiring from the Navy, I was in Australia and Tasmania, and to finish out the local money in my pockets, I bought copies of the truck trader and the farm tractor for down under. i have kept them all these years, and it dawned on me that I had the answer. The prices and other info might be out of date, but the capacity and number of axles would still be the same if I searched the ads.

Now, just to confirm that you are where I think you are, can you tell me who George Wilder was? There probably isn't a soul in America except me who knows that name, and what became of him, but he was very well known in NZ in the late 50's.

Thank you for your answer. There are no search results about trucks information from google, so books seems useful. I lived most of my career life in NZ. I left it because I found a job somewhere else. Eventualy i got fired but I was compinsated and found good opertunites. So I settled where the money is. I did not complete my application to become a Kiwi, however New Zealand is different from Australia. Its magical, green and full of rivers and mountins.
if u type George Wilder name on google search..u would get a result form nz encyclopedica about him (i can not post it here).
