I appreciate everyone's input. I get the difference between initial cost, maintenance, downtime etc. My current truck, a 1996 Intl COE with N-14 is only in the shop when I put it there- absolutely no stupid emissions junk to worry about. BUT, I am based out of Ca and therefore have to get a 08 or newer truck before 2016. I don't want to stay in this truck even if I move. I need something with more room and aerodynamics /smaller motor. There is a balance between a lesser priced truck, and one that will stay in the shop because of emissions issues. That's why I was asking, what is commercially available today, and not that Star Wars crap someone posted- that is very fuel efficient.

Your best bet for increased profitability is probably going to be to get out of CA and stay away from there.

MODS just delete this thread- I asked a fairly simple question and only got ONE decent answer.

I know this state sucks, I know I should leave. There's lots of things I know I COULD and SHOULD and MIGHT do, BUT I NEVER ASKED OPINIONS ON THAT. I asked about fuel efficient trucks, not how much you hate Ca because you can no longer do business here. I can, and because the money here is GOOD, I will continue to do business here. Because my children are in school here, I will continue to do business here. Because it might only rain a few days a year, I fight no clouds, bad winds, mosquitos, hurricans, tornadoes, or hail storms, I will continue to do business here.

SO lastly, what's a good fuel efficient truck??

with everything that has been said is right,a truck that is paid for or one with low payments and low repair cost plus fuel cost would answer your question. those three things will effect your cost per mile or your bottom line in a dramatic way. lots of luck

I'm in a 12 cascadia dd15 10 spd yanking reefer across the divide almost weekly. Gotta admit I think detroit has got the emissions in hand. I get high 6's grossing 75-80k without even trying and that in the mountains. In moderately flat I get into 8s. Ive gotten 8.2 over two consecutive days from central ohio to south Texas. Best hop was Tehachapi to Santa Nella grossing about 79.5, 8.7. With 13 id have been over 9. Im not a fan of the cascadias looks but driving this one is pretty great on my pocket.

In my experience, I find a condo a bit small with more then one person in it and all the gear, The T680 may look nice from the outside but it is small inside, though its a cramped doable, may I suggest checking out at a studio sleeper of any make or volvo 780

Thanks driver, I didn't know they had a studio sleeper, still living in my small COE world lol. Unfortunately a Volvo is the one truck I can never own- it's not American so no way this guy will buy. Same goes for my driveway- gotta Mustang and Chysler mini van on it. Definitely not the most fuel efficient cars, but I gotta draw the line with my American red-blood somewhere LOL.

it's not American so no way this guy will buy:biggrin_25525: Better checkout where most FREIGHLINERS are assembled ( MEXICO ) and who owns the company ( GERMAN ), VOLVO might be foreign owned but at least built in the USA and your Chrysler mini van likely assembled in CANADA and the company is now ITALIAN owned
