I quoted your original post for you so you can't go back and change your question.
Seems to me you don't even know what you asked. You asked about "keeping the most of your gross", which is more than just fuel mileage.....which is what I answered. If you wanted to know about fuel mileage you should have asked about fuel mileage and stop blaming people because you can't get your thoughts from head to finger tips.
What truck will let me keep the most of my gross?

I drive a pete 387 CAT engine. Up until ~800k I would vary depending on weight between 6.5-8.5. It needs a new clutch now and some maintenance, so it has dropped off on heavy loads but I will probably stick with peterbilt 387/389 or try a kenworth next. Definitely going to stick with the CAT engine in all future trucks.

I've now put 12000 miles on the 2010 Mack Pinnacle I just purchased. I love it. It had 517000 on it. Was scared of the emissions coming from my 1999 Freightliner Century with 12.7L Detroit S60. So far not even noticeable. I have the Mack MP 8 motor 455hp. Outpulls my 500hp detroit from before.
Just a thought. Oh, one more thing. It has an eaton ultrashift (automated manual). Gotta say I don't think I'll buy another manual transmission again. And I've been 1.7 million miles in them. fwiw
Mileage 6-6.5 -
Buy a Volvo with the ishift, nothing out there compares to the mpg or comfort.
Right now they are the most reliable fuel efficient truck out there but by 2016 all the others should have caught up. Kind of like ford and cummins, ford went through the emissions crap in the last decade but now have the most solid and fuel efficient motor while cummins were more reliable in the last decade they are now going through their problems trying to get emissions compliant while trying to be reliable and fuel efficient.
We bought a 2013 Midroof Volvo and can not believe the mpg's it's returned. In fact it replaced a 1996 international with a CAT3406e which was obviously paid for, but the difference in the fuel savings actually make the monthly payment! So my operating costs stayed the same but Iv a better brand new carb compliant truck!
Oh and if you think CARB is a bad thing think again, rates have already gone up this year hauling in and out of CA. Make sure you raise your rates with your carb compliance, the brokers already did! -
Foxcover, what motor do you have and what is your MPG?
thx -
trees Thanks this.

D13 rated at 500hp, iShift box and 3.42 rear end. The rear end is a little lower geared than what most folks like but we mostly run CA. I still cruse around 65-70 out of state and stay in the green but I have yet to meet a truck that will out pull me on the hills.
Running I40 I typically get between 8-9 mpg. I10 is usually over 10. It's almost exactly double what my old international with a CAT 3406e was doing. Last time I checked mpg over the lifespan of the truck so far it was at 9.2 mpg. 2013 model VNL630, mid heavy haul spec with double lockers, 315 front tires.mp4694330, trees and GearWarrant Thank this. -
