Not often enough. That is my major gripe.
I get one day of "home time" for every seven days out. That seems pretty standard.
Now, many of my esteemed colleagues are OK with that; but they're either divorced, separated, running from something, misanthropes, estranged or excessively angry loners.
I, on the other hand, have a significant other who wants to see me more than once a month. Of course, these are part of the dues one pays when starting out and after a year one can write their own ticket.
The holy grail for Truckers is to be home every night. I just wanna be home every Friday night (and, while I am asking, I also want a pony)

LOL. Thanks. I kinda figure I'll have to be away from home a lot my first year. I'm hoping I can at least get home every 3 or 4 weeks. Does May at least do that for you?

May Trucking is very good about getting you home on time for your scheduled hometime. I am home every three weeks.
No complaints on that issue. (And, for me, typing "no complaints" is highly unusual)
The first year is kinda like an apprenticeship with a paltry spending allowance with which to buy an occasional hotdog. It's not a living. Paying actual rent or serious bills during the first year (while also paying off school) would be very difficult. (Yes, I exaggerate, but not by much)Last edited: Dec 29, 2013
