I drove a Pete 387 with a Cummins isx. It was bought from Canada and made to haul 100,000. It had the strongest Jake I ever knew.
I was in I70 Westbound in Colorado. Fully loaded around 79,000lbs. I went down that mountain in 8th gear low or 12th gear (truck was an 18 speed), and it held my speed at exactly 35mph without me touching the brakes. I loved driving that truck.

My newfangled Cummins X15 seems to do pretty well.

Is this question like the one that asked:
Which truck is faster- Kenworth-Volvo-Freightliner-Peterbuilt-International?????????Crude Truckin' and Lepton1 Thank this. -
My 2016 Volvo with the D 13 Ishift has an amazing Jake Brake. Almost too strong at times. I have heard the newer freightliner's with the DT 12 are similar.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Never had a Volvo powered truck, so no experience there. I DO like the N14's, ISX's, and we had some 1997-98 vintage series 60's that would about launch you through the windshield @84K gross weight. Not doggin' on the Cats (pun intended) but i don't feel they were as strong. (referring to 3406E and C15 Acerts). I do think the kitties had the best Jake sound through a set of straights though. So there's that...... Just my.02
Blackshack46, Dave_in_AZ and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Mx 13 is decent jakes. -
Cascadia has an exhaust break. The owners manual claims it can sustain 2400RPM with the engine brake on. It really dosn't start working till you get past 1800.
The dt12 will downshift and throw it close to 2krpm as soon as it can in hill desent mode.stwik Thanks this.
