Mine was a "D" License, had an interview with a company, he says " You know how to drive a truck?" I says "Yes", he says " Go get your picture taken". Never had a road test, pre trip, NADA. Been driving for a little over 40 years now, still driving, NO TICKETS, NO ACCIDENTS, NO INCIDENTS. Gained a Lot of Grey Hair.
What was your CDL-A road test like?

Mine took about 2 hours from start to finish. Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing (Straight Line, Offset, and Parallel) and about 45 mins or so on the road.
-
mine was pretty simple, pre trip then done straight backing. alley dock, 3 cone maneuvering(weave in and out of 3 cones) then drove down a 2 lane back road had to know what to do at a railroad track, and go under a bridge and remember the height. pretty simple.

My school is "training" us by having us do exactly what the road test is ,hell the tester actually comes to our school we don't go to the DMV.
All in all its about a hour depending on how long you take with baking and pre test, altho their is a maximum time of 1 hr 40 min (20 min pretip ,40 min backing and 40 min road) -
Mine was walked in the door stopped by the judges office talked to him about 30 minutes about some ground we were farming for him and then I walked down to the liecense branch and they said "CDL Mr.######?" "Yep!" "Well every bodies out today but I tell you want I've seen you drive those semis past my house before so if you do anything driving wrong you'll fail if you don't you pass" we drove around for about 30 minutes in a 359 with a 5 and 4 and I dropped her back off and went and got my picture taken.

Wow ..long time ago for me as well. Early70's...took the test for a chauffeurs license , went to work for a buddy's Dad driving a dump. He took me out back told me which unit to bring out front, then we went around the block and back into the yard ....never looked back , only other "road test" I had was for GSF , and it was pretty much the same , drive down the road a ways , return to the yard , then park the truck at a door......I retired in 2011 , at 62 , I'm 65 now , but I plan on keeping my CDL's til I have to give 'em up , you never know......

Mine was pretty run of the mill.I did a pretrip, then alley dock.
We then moved on to the road test.
She was an older gal,and chain smoked filter less palmals.
She directed me to a local dump of a motel. She made me go inside
and pay under an assumed name. She then proceeds to make me shave
her back, and rub her feet with baby oil.
Just your typical road test.We still keep in touch, and the nightmares are less
frequent than they were the first few years.I'm cutting myself less, and hardly
ever urinate on the sheets anymore.I'm gonna make it afterallvirginwidow, moraramis and JohnBoy Thank this. -
If you can please refrain from trolling in the future ,I'd be happy.JohnBoy Thanks this. -
