I've always been in trucking. Parcel, LTL, OTR TL, behind the wheel and behind the desk and sometimes both at the same time.

I used to run my own legal research company-- just me and my computer contracting to law firms in my 'spare' time-- but I got sick of dealing with lawyers (if you think you hate lawyers now, try working for one). I loved the work but couldn't stand the people.

For years, I wanted to get out of trucking and into something 'better.' Going through this recession, I'm couldn't be more happy with my choice. It ain't sexy, but it's been good to me.

Army for three years after high school(1997-2000), Factory job along with part time bus driving job until 2003, then I became a diesel weasel. Looks like a return to the military is becoming more of a possibility unless the government learns to leave the trucking industry alone and let us do our #### jobs!!!:biggrin_25516:

    Before

Lawn mowing, Field mowing, arc welding, school instructor, machinist, plumber (for myself), some electrical work, carpenter (built 2 houses, living in second now). Steam locomotive engineer / fireman, pyrotechnician (guy who fires of aerial fireworks, business is booming, lol).

    After?

There is an after? Pfft, not likely. Just another job description to be added to the list of my many talents.

Wow, some intresting professions on here. First off I would like to thank all of you ex-military and law enforcement officers. I always wanted to get into the military but because of my asthma they shut me down. I worked in a car dealership summers since I was 14, then I went there full-time for a year out of high school. I then got a job working as a mechanic in power plants and steel mills, I worked on pumps/blowers and did some driving of a straight truck delivering the equipment, but it got slow and we were union, I was soon laid off. I then decided to bump up and get my class A license, which I got through a local school. Now I'm on the job hunt.

first job was as a cook at KFC worked way up to store manager by the time i was 20. Then got a job with the phone company in saskatchewan as a telephone operator. did that for 3 years, decided i don't like office work, went and got my license and went through a local companys driver training progra for 3 months. they didnt uphold their end of the deal though so i quit them and went and worked in northern alberta for the winter for schlumberger as a wireline operator in the chevron oilsands project, logging hole formations. made my ten grand a month out there got out of debt and had a pile left over and took april to middle of july off. then got back into trucking and been here since.

I worked as a cashier for Publix and 7-11 from 03-07. From late 07 to begining till late 08 I held a couple temp jobs ranging from a maintenance technician to a fast food team member. I left there to do my recent job; Student worker while going to school at local college. I got laid off in October and attended Roadmaster early December.

Most recently...School bus driver, then drive big ol' trucks until it's time to stop.....then semi-retire and drive school buses again til I can't grip the steering wheel...then sit on the front porch, drink beer, throw empties at passing cars, and pet my dog! Of course, for entertainment I'll chase 60-70 year old hotties! I'd chase the younger ones but I'd be too tired if I caught them to do much of anything 'cept try to catch my breath. Aaaah, life is good!

Songwriter, singer, guitarist and BS artist....Funny but some of my best songs were written going down the road in an 18 wheeler. I don't that I have ever not been a trucker. We used to rebuild my dads trucks in our driveway.

I would have liked being a philanthropist if you can call that a occupation. more of a calling I guess.
