Good question. I say keep it to the absolute minimum you can. The current on the battery side of the inverter is horrible. Current at battery = wattage divided by 12 in amps!

I’m gonna say skip the microwave and go for one of the countertop/toaster ovens. I have both in the truck but if I could only have one that microwave would be in the dumpster. Tonight I broiled a ribeye, and used the air fryer option to make some fries to go with it. Having one in the truck is a game changer if you want to eat good and stay out of restaurants.

Problem with that, is it really takes an APU to run. Sure it can on a big enough inverter, but inverters are bad for inductive heat loads like that. Tends to kill both the oven and the inverter faster than they would die otherwise.

I have been using the same cheap toaster oven for nearly 4 years in my current truck. No problems so far with either the oven or the 1800W inverter.
Max draw with the oven is 1000W.

No APU, but I do idle the engine while I am cooking.

I’m wondering the cost of running a propane mini stove. It turns out everything has a cost including fuel when running the engine, using an APU that eventually breaks down, and even wear on the batteries.

I have a tri pack apu which requires an inverter to get 120 volts. No issues at all in two different trucks with the 1800 watt inverter or the oven.

After having one I wouldn’t drive otr without my little oven.

I do all my cooking with a CrockPot soup warmer, 50watts, and a $20 wallyworld kcup coffee maker, which I also use for heating water for noodles. I am about to start experimenting with a larger crock pot too.

The coffee maker is a thousands watts, so I try to remember to start the truck first.

I just bought a steam type egg cooker, which makes excellent poached eggs. It makes hard boiled eggs too but I'm too lazy to peel those.

Oh. And I'm in the process of mounting my PS4, but I don't much time for that except when doing a 34.
