I was talking with someone who use to work for Prime before he bought his own truck and we were talking about electronics and other comfort items. He told me that when he was at Prime that they would not let them put in a fridge made for the model truck they were driving or other things like a satellite dish. He said he heard most large companies are cracking down on removing the passenger seats as well.

When I was speaking to my recruiter at Roehl, she told me that most of their trucks now have APU's but if the one I'm assigned does not then I can have one installed. She also mentioned that I could buy a fridge for my truck(not sure if she meant truck model specific or after market). At that time I wasn't even thinking about a satellite dish.

Have any of you guys been allowed to install a fridge, satellite dish, ect. on a company truck? If no one knows for sure, I'll let you know after I speak to her again.

The recruiter may have meant inverter rather than APU. There are very few trucks that do not have either an APU or EPU (large battery capacity with periodic auto-start and auto-stop of the main engine for short periods). The APU or EPU is for your heat and A/C in the sleeper, while the inverter would be to run a higher-power 120V appliance such as a microwave. The inverters that they install will run for only two hours before having to be off for 10 hours, so they are not suitable for running a 120V refrigerator. Lots of people of course have 12V thermoelectric coolers or even 12V refrigerators I suppose. To my knowledge they do not allow you to make any mods to the truck; for example you cannot install your own inverter, you must have one installed by the company (cost is paid through payroll deduction in 7 installments of $50 each).

Don't know about satellite dishes, but people have installed the little TV antennas that clamp on the mirror posts. But if you get specific details on what's allowed I'm sure people would be interested to know.

Almost anything as long as it can be taken out and doesnt hurt the tractor.Roehl is pretty liberal on creature comforts.I know a few guys that have satellite tv..Just not permanent fixture. .

12 volts coolers only, and like mentioned most trucks have either APU or EPU. I have a Kenworth however that doesn't have either, so I have to idol to keep cool in the sleeper.

Hey truckerwannabe220, I myself am a current CDL driving student set to complete my course in 4 more weeks and I have committed to going to work for Roehl. About your question, the recruiter that comes to our school told us when we asked about APUs, EPUs or idling, he said that the company trucks were fitted with EPUs and that there are a bank of batteries beneath the passenger seat and when they drain down to 40% the truck starts up to recharge the batteries then shuts off again. I have my CB radio in my pickup and I'm always on the look out for Roehl drivers on the road to ask them things like this and ask how they feel the company treats them but every time I spot one, I'm in one of the driving school's trucks and they don't have radios in them. In the NW part of Louisiana, I see one Roehl truck about every 2 days. Thats all I know at this time but if I find anything else out, I'll be sure to post it here for you.

Does Roehl have APU or inverters in all trucks now? I read that they are not putting APUs in any new trucks. As long as we can idle and use inverters I would be happy.

Most trucks have the EPU battery packs, and you can use a small 12V inverter, but one for microwaves and such you have to have maintenance install one. You buy it and it costs $350.

How many watts can you install? Do they have the inverters for sale for the $350 or do you need to buy your own and then have them instal it?
