If you don't have the money nor credit to buy a good used truck then you need to stay a company driver until you have saved up enough money to make a down payment or just buy the truck. Plus you need to have enough saved to do any repair that might happen. If you don't have any money and don't have credit, then you need to stay away from leasing a truck with a carrier. They only lease to make a lot of money off of you and you could end up making less money than a company driver. Happens all the time. Do your home work and talk to people. I started out as a company driver and drove for about 1.25 years, during that time on the road I spent it researching companies and making a plan on how I was going to buy a truck. I bought a 2010 Volvo put 6,000 down and have a payment of $1,280 per month and I leased with Landstar. I set aside 20% of my gross to cover repairs, maintenance and taxes and what is left in my escrow I leave there. In another couple of years I'm going to buy another truck with the extra money in my escrow. I have a plan and I'm working it. You need to have a plan and work it. It isn't easy and it isn't a get rich quick deal, but if you do it right you can live comfortable and not have a bunch of worries.
