What would be your dream trucker job?
I think the coolest would be Office of Secure Transport- move nuclear weapons around the country, and assuming the radiation doesn't cut your life short, you get full retirement after 20 years. I've read that the drivers are more elite than even the best special forces. Sounds like they party too!

One of my friends from Germany knew a guy who had a route from southern Germany up to somewhere in Russia- after he got out of the traffic of Germany and into the old iron curtain, the roads were empty and he really liked the beauty of the nature.
The other thing I would like to try would be the Australian Road Trains- the trucks that pull upwards to 6 trailers through the Outback to remote towns.
Has anyone ever driven commercially abroad? I imagine there's a lot of bureaucracy to jump through.
What would be your dream job?

Dream "TRUCKER" job guys. That's ok. I guess you could fly in a truck and be a trucking porn star!
Hey Sido check out Western's website. They actually have armored semi trucks! That's not an un-obtainable gig. Give them a shout. One of the stipulations is that you have to bonded though. They also want to know what color your poop is! A lot of truckers haul "sensitive" stuff and don't even know it. They are also tracked and followed by chase vehicles. One of the loads we hauled one time had a bunch of miscellaneous stuff mixed in and in the middle of the load were money plates for the US mint. We didn't know that we were hauling them until after they were delivered and the receiver told us what we were really hauling. Talk about a "priceless" load!
My dream "trucker" job would be just to have a really nice custom truck and haul whatever.

Does this count?

I have my dream job now. Question is, can I keep it.

I met a convoy one time, up in Wyoming I think it was, on I-80. One eighteen wheeler flanked by black Humvees front and rear, a helicopter flying sweeps around the area and no markings on anything. Who knows what other security there was that wasn't apparent. I figured nukes going to one of the missile bases up there. It didn't strike me as being all that much fun unless you liked to live a good part of your life in a goldfish bowl.
My dream job, the one I'm angling for, would be hauling bulk materials in gas/oil fields in the west. I like being out in the open, barren country with nothing much around, no cities and little traffic. It's like that around here; we just need the natural gas market to pick up and take off. I'm hoping... -
A few years back I used to load these trucks. We talked to the drivers all the time and for awhile all we couldn't look at anything except what we had to do for our job. We couldn't look into the cab until they had a story on "60 Minutes" then they would let us look into the cab. It's not a great as you might think. They make good money when they go out but their trips are limited. They don't roll every day.
The last time I talked with them they were telling me they do not hire truck drivers. They want someone that has no bad habits so they can train on their own. They are federal agents first then truck drivers. You must be in good shape to pass their courses and it's like the FBI.
The radiation is no problem or I'd be dead along time ago. There's not that much. Not like when a reactor gets refueled. They don't have to stop for anyone and have the capability to talk to any agency. They pull into scales just for common courtesy and I can tell you no one will open their trailers. We call them the ghost fleet.
Oh, and they don't party until that truck is secured. -
my dream job would be hauling for a nascar team and working the pits on sunday and if the cars driver gets sick hell im a driver aint i ?
