Oh, yeah, it wouldn't be a big deal I don't think. Heck, the water we used to drink in the military always smelled/tasted like JP8 anyways.
What would happen: DOT inspection with a leaking fuel tank

1 part per million is a measurement often used when dealing with spills, contamination and pollution.
The enforcement Nazi's can get worse, one part per billion, LOL
the first inch of 16 miles = 1ppm
4 drops form a 55 gal drum = 1ppm
ain't much is it?Grumppy Thanks this. -
JP8... are you sure you werent drinking out of a fuel line off an F-15 & thought you had a garden hose... LOL
Yeah, heck, when I was a kid, we'd drink out of a pond or a water hose, or a cow track... whatever we had at our disposal where ever we were.
Still. to the OP.. you'd still be put OOS with a leaky fuel line.x1Heavy, nikmirbre, icemerg and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hah, I think it was because they stored the water jugs and the fuel jugs in the same conex box and JP8 gets everywhere.

I found a fuel leak 1 oz per min... put a cup under it and had to dump ot in the tank every 5-6 min... road service showed up and put some Teflon tape on a screw ran the screw thru the pin hole and sealed it... that was 6 years ago and it's still not leaking

emergency responders carry 'plug N dike' to seal smaller leaks along with a bunch of softwood, conical, plugs sized for a bunch of punctures. the also carry a folded up 'kiddie pool' type containment to place under the leaking tank.
Our local county Haz-Mat team will respond and stop the leak before having the carrier hire a clean-up crew to finish the job. Then they invoice you for the 'expendables' used to control the leak. They have kept stuff out of the storm sewers and actually saved us thousands in the long run,
BTW the NJ DEP feels anything liquid that hits the street is now waste and MUST be disposed thru a cleanup company; they are slowly becoming the California of the east! -
Why just not get the tank fixed?
wis bang Thanks this. -

From the CVSA North American Standard Out of Service Criteria manual
FUEL SYSTEMS
a. Liquid Fuels
(1) A fuel system with a dripping leak at any point (including refrigeration or
heater fuel systems). (396.3(a)(1)) -
I had a leak at valve at bottom of my tank I just fixed. I used a cheap harbor freight transfer pump and 20 percent off coupon and 2 Home Depot trash cans to pump my fuel into and changed out the fittings. Just use broom handle zip ties to suction hose to get all the fuel out. Hope this helps
