I've never been stoped and serched at random, in my truck or just walking down the street. As long as your not doing anything or fit a profile it's unlikely your going to have a problem, but if you have to use it then your alive but now your a criminal.

That's what alot of folks fail to realize...

You can have all your T's dotted and I's crossed (ie. Concealed permit, registered weapon) however if you use it and then make the phone call 'hey someone just tried to rob me so I put 3 in their chest... send a meat wagon' don't expect a round of high fives when the law shows up. They'll take your weapon and run you downtown till the dust settles.

I'm amazed at how many people think like this.. it just can't happen.. no way.. I'm too __________.. it's obviously a choice but I won't count on that kind of thinking..

I hope that folks crossing the border with a firearm will actually take the time to read this. There are so many websites that don't know what they are talking about with gun laws.
It is far better to read the actual law in whatever states you are going to be in, than to depend on a website that can say anything they want.

That is what the movies and TV have done to our "dumbed down" society. Should you have to use it, your life will never be the same again. In fact, should you have to pull it, and then not need to use it, you are likely to be charged with "Brandishing a Weapon." Particularly if the act is witnessed by friend of the individual(s) that caused you to pull it out in the first place.

Carrying a firearm is NOT a decision to be made lightly. Despite what the entertainment media tells you.

This! I was always taught that a weapon is NOT a deterrent, it is a level of force. Meaning, if you pull it, you better be using it. If you want a firearm to wave around and scare people with it, you're doing it wrong.

When I got my Utah permit, this was covered in the legal part of the class.

If you draw, you or someone else must be actively threatened, or you could be charged with assault or brandishing.

If you are under threat, hopefully the draw will de-escalate the matter. With someone on PCP or something, it likely won't. If you must fire, you have a responsibility to minimize the danger to bystanders by positioning yourself accordingly to prevent injury to innocents that could be caused by over-penetration or poor marksmanship.

There is a big difference between shooting to kill and shooting to stop a threat. One of those things could easily rise to the level of murder. Once you drop your attacker, the use of force must cease. You obviously can't walk up to someone on the ground and put a round in his head, because that IS murder.

Whomever carries a firearm for protection needs to be mindful of all of this. LEOs have to do so every single day, because the one time they may have to defend themselves could spell the end of their career, in ADDITION to possible criminal charges.
