There was No real time to pick up a load to augment so what rate would you accept for the 5500 round trip?
We had to decline due to family obligations.
What would you accept- deadhead 2750 mi pick up & then 2750 back?

They're paying for the whole trip so double the normal loaded rate. Hard to imagine they couldn't source a truck somewhere closer than a 2,750 mile radius though. Sometimes a broker will get a quote from someone like you and get it approved by their customer then source a closer truck for less pocketing a huge rip for their effort.

So, let me get this straight. The USA is 2800 miles across, so they want you to go cross country empty, and right back where you were? I don't think they could pay me enough to do that.
 Sounds like a gubment deal,,,

Lonesome, austinmike and buddyd157 Thank this. -

Sometimes their options are limited when they need a 53’ conestoga with a wood deck, a team with security clearance that wont stop other than for fuel to and can run 1.1 across the country.
Now find a team that is available for your specific dates and meets the requirements. -

That sounds like it would pay huge $$$$. Kudos to you for being in a position to be able to turn it down.

So in my world, which is simple open deck thats a simple calculation, 16,500
Theyre needing the load badly and on a schedule, so thats a flat 3$/mile all miles.
But youve got other things too, particular equipment, team, security clearance, which should ALSO be worth at least somethingaustinmike, Midwest Trucker, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this. -

Was it because of the holiday?

Get into some specialized freight/trailer and you see it often. Just had a driver make a 3000 mile pickup and doing another 3200 miles for the delivery because the trailer is not common.Lonesome, Ok big boy and Truckermania Thank this.
