ELD does suck. I really enjoy not needing that with my 99. I don’t use an actual paper logbook any more because Motive/Keep truckin is honestly easier and saves time but the flexibility to not get dinged with BS violations on tight ones is nice. If you were 5 minutes late getting to your parking spot nobody will ever know or care.

There is a factory KW bracket setup one has to spec, or purchase afterward, that supports the trailing edge of the hood, behind the steers. All that flapping you see on an unsupported hood will be gone and the hood won’t crack. Not everyone is aware of it being available.

Have you ever got an inspection using that motive app instead of using paper log? I wonder how they would react to it? I figured it would be either or but would agree it is nice how they have it set up in the app.

Don’t you know? He knows of a few all busted up so that means that they’re all junk and should be avoided. I’m sure the ones that do break have nothing to do with drivers driving them like the cops are chasing them down washboard roads.

Can motive/keep trucking be used like paper or does it have to use GPS and junk? Also what's it costing as a one truck guy?

Nobody has ever asked to see it but there is a heading you can click on to put it in DOT inspection mode. It's basically just an electronic version of a paper logbook in the sense that you can make the logs show whatever you want them to show. There is nothing connected to the truck that automatically records drive time and cant be edited. ELD version is available if want to pay for the box that plugs into the diagnostic port but since it's a pre-2000 model year truck I am exempt from that BS. Canada has the same exemption for older trucks. I have used EOBRs before and they just make the job more difficult. Not that I go out and intentionally try break the HOS rules but sometimes it's nice to sweep one under the rug if there is some major delay because of a wreck or something. So you don't end up having to stop somewhere bad just because the electronic nanny says so.

This one caught my eye for the price. I wonder who originally ordered it and what it was used for. LTL linehaul maybe?

Tempting idea of mine is to get into a 2-axle sleeper "real truck" that is spec'ed lighter for MPG and keep the 1-ton as a backup. Not a huge fan of the condo top look but having a standup sleeper vs a flattop coffin bunk is pretty darn nice I have to say from experience.

I have it myself but it is hooked up. +If I ran pre I would still use it for the same reasons as it is good information and easier to use than paper. Just wondered what DOT would say if they knew it was not hooked up and you kept track vs doing paper.

Probably has more to do with the crappy roads these days.

I mean. Even the best professional drivers can't avoid then pot holes.

    How about those dirt roads
    Or construction jobs?

Can't go fast there at all.
