What would you choose, help me decide please.

    I’m in the process of building a super ten dump truck. I’ll be working in the Southern California area. It’s gonna cost me 44k for the dump truck build and I have 3 used trucks im looking at and they’re all different specs, they’ll all be day cabs.

    1.2015 Peterbilt 365 490k miles Cummins isx12 425hp,10 speed manual. $58,000

    I’m thinking this would run me around 100k-110k total to build but it’s a smaller engine and if something does happen I’ll have to fix it sooner because of the mileage.

    2. 2015 Peterbilt 367 330k miles Cummins ISX15
    485hp, Eaton ultrashift, $85,000

    I like this one overall for the mileage and price but I’m not too sure about the automatic transmission. It would total about 130-140k to build.

    3. Freightliner 122SD 220k miles, DD15 505hp, 10 speed manual Eaton, 90k, with 1 year warranty

    I was originally in the market only for Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks but ran across this one with low miles and a warranty, not sure if this SD model is more reliable than normal freightliners and also I’ve driven Cummins before so I’m familiar with those engines but not sure about the Detroit engines and also parts availability for these types of trucks.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated, just want some feedback before I make this investment. Thank you all.

    Dd15. Most reliable emissions truck. If you in Cali I doubt you will make it go bye bye, so that's what I would get.
    Full disclosure, I hate freightliner.

    Can’t hate a Freightliner, they were awesome trucks. Now these modern Mercedes/ Volvo-White-GMC/Freightliner/ Western Star/ Ford Millenial Motorhomes, hate on them all you want. They shouldn’t be allowed to write Freightliner or Western Star on any of that junk.

    I have driven a freightliner for 12 months. Rode like dog ####, loud as an angry woman, shifted like a lazy Mexican on a cold dry morning.

    I would never own one.... Unless I couldn't fick with emissions.

    My Pete is like heaven after 12 months in Detroit

    Is it not cheaper to just buy a dump truck ?

    It would be good to know more specs on the trucks. Suspension, weight of the front and rear axles, gear ratio, etc. I am guessing that these are just highway spec'd trucks you'll be converting into a dump truck? If you stay on the blacktop that will be OK, but they won't work well if you go off-road a lot on construction sites, etc. And that seems like a lot of money (like roundhouse mentioned) to build a dump truck that is not a true, heavy-spec dump truck. Highway trucks converted to dump trucks are all over for way less than $100K. I am guessing you are also limited on how old of a truck you can register in California.
