everyone at the school seems to be really nice (but i did pay them after all, lol)
actually, the guy at the school is advising me the same as you, but just not to tell the company that i went to his school - therefore, he wouldn't release the info.
are there companies that will hire someone who obtained their CDL on their own, without going through a school? that's basically my question
What would you do? any advice appreciated

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds

Trucking companies will find out. They even find sealed records. Start right now with some applications & submit several and be honest so you don't get fired 1000 miles away from home.
If companies pre-hire you, knowing about the SAP program, then you have nothing to worry about.
Some companies are more lenient than others; take what you can get, then in 12 months you can go about anywhere.
Paschall Truck Lines
Sunset Logistics
Rosedale Transport (Dalton,GA)
Freymiller
PI&I Motor Express
Wiley Sanders Truck Lines
Navajo Express
TransAm
USA Truck
Comet Transportation - Harvey,IL
Remember, your first company won't be the one you retire from, so don't be too picky. Right now you just need to get started and get a few months experience.Last edited: Nov 6, 2015

Whats the point of the SAP program if the school still has to tell employers.Op companies will accept you as long as you show them the proof that you successfully completed SAP.
-
The point of the SAP process is that once a positive hits it must be finished. Think of it this way. When you open your vehicles drivers side door at some point you close it. This process is like that. A positive is like opening the door and the SAP return to duty process is like closing that door. However now the door being opened to start with is part of your record and must be reported even though its now closed.

I think the real question is NOT if the trucking companies find out, It's if their insurance company finds out. Those guys have the greatest databases in the world!
There is only one answer. Be truthful. -
You can say that again about the insurance company database. When I moved to Virginia in 2013 I changed my car insurance company. During the process I got asked about an at fault accident from when I was 16 back in 1974. My father paid cash to fix that ladies car. I was shocked to see it was in a database.

I want to thank everyone for the replies; especially Chinatown for giving me some company names. I have filled out several applications and I was straight up with all of them. I kept thinking about what my dad used to tell me - "If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember what you said."
I have already received some calls back. Even though it isn't a done deal yet, that is promising at least. I feel better about not hiding anything and if it keeps me from getting a job, then it is what it is; but I know if I get invited to orientation then I'll never have to worry about it. Thanks again to everyone and have a great weekend. I will update as I know moreChinatown Thanks this. -
Keep us posted if you will; might help another driver in the same situation.
