The person filming offered to help him, but he didn't want help.

Exactly. The guy filming it left PLENTY of room for him to back straight back, then make a simple left turn on the side street. Offered to help guide him back, but the driver refused help. Pride can be expensive.

To answer the OP's question, if I ever find myself in a pickle like this accept or seek help. More than once I've called the police for assistance and they are always glad I made the call, and every time was told the road was notorious for trucks getting in trouble and causing damage.

Another thing I do is stop and put in the 4-ways and consult Google Maps in Satellite View mode. This has helped me plan a way to get out.

I also carry a handheld spotlight. This is essential for lighting up dark side streets or narrow dirt roads at night. Then you can actually read signs 100 yards down the road without walking all the way up to them.

    How old is this video.

From the video it appears he may have had other/better options.
But who am I to look at the video/judge that driver.

One thing is sure. What he did wasn't the best option since the truck was loosing some pieces and he was unable to complete the uturn anyway.

I'll give an example of a situation I had when trying to make delivery to a Walmart and turned into a side road too soon. As soon as I knew it was the wrong road I stopped, engaged the 4-ways, and consulted Google Satellite View. A friendly 4 wheeler pulled up alongside and let me know 1/4 mile ahead was a turn around in a truck yard. I confirmed that on Satellite View, and went up the road 1/4 mile. I again put on the 4-ways and walked the "truck yard" to assess the situation. It required going down a steep, ice covered dirt road with a tight turn around a building, gunning it across a grass/mud section, making a sweeping turn at the low end, then interaxle differential lock to make it back up the icy dirt road and make a left turn around that building next to the paved road.

I walked the entire route with my spotlight, assessing the ability of the iced up ground to keep my rig from sinking into mud. Finally I made the maneuver, with inches to spare going down and coming out of the "yard".

The lesson is to stop and assess the situation BEFORE you commit to a maneuver.

Crazy thing is I think he would have made it if he dumped the suspension.

    It was a 13'-0" bridge.

THAT would require knowledge of what that little button does. Let's not ask too much of a driver.

Ok, didn't know that. I came across it today and didn't realize it's a couple years old. Still very educational, especially for new drivers.
