As you know I wrecked my truck last week, and am 99.9% sure they will total it. I do intend to try and buy it back, but since I have never been through this before, I am wondering.
Obviously I will pull all my personal stuff, tools and spare parts out, that is a no brainer.
I have probably 2500 bucks or more in the off road hid lights, just put a new cb, but it is in the overhead, so will leave it anyway, but I am not sure if I should leave my vhf radio or not, then there is the inverter.
Even the lug nut covers I have on it were discontinued over 10 years ago and can't be replaced.
Is it normal to pull the extra stuff off before the insurance adjuster comes or what is normal on a case like this?
I just put new drives on a month or so back, I have the old ones, but would not feel right about swapping them back out, and like I said, if everything shakes out right I will buy it back anyway.
What would you do?

I think I would have him quote it both ways: with accessories and without.
With out accessories you will buy it back cheaper and not have to screw around uninstalling and reinstalling same. That is if you're going to rebuild it.
I have found the insurance adjusters to be pretty flexible and open to negotiations on heavy equipment claims. Not so much on autos. -
Thanks, I was not aware that, that was even an option. I just had it in my mind that when they looked at it, it was what they were buying, and expecting to get. I tend to think, I need to pull my off road lights off, to keep from them getting stolen anyway. They are no longer available in the US and are pretty much sought after. lol

You should not have to buy it back if you wish to keep it the adjuster will have to determine salvage value which is deducted from settlement (usually an online auction) also don’t surrender your title they might try to make you take a salvage title. Now if you’re thinking about glider kit you don’t need to worry about the title.

Right I’m just saying you can declare that you wish to keep it up front and if your intention is to repair it yourself don’t surrender the title. I have been thru this scenario.

I had a truck totaled.
I had the option to buy it back for lowest bid plus my deductible.
Another totaled truck. I didn't want the truck.
I was paid for truck plus $2,500 for work related equipment and $1,000 for personal property.
Tow company bought the truck. They sold me the chains, binders and tarps for a $100 after the insurance settlement.
Glad to here you're ok after accident.
Good luckSavageMuffin, Swine hauler and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
I just had the truck brought back to my shop, I will pull my tie down gear , tire chains, tools and extra parts I carry and all my personal junk off myself. The stuff that is bolted, I think I will leave and see what shakes out.

G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
A pothole sheared the drag link off of the pitman arm, turning the steer tires loose.
G13Tomcat Thanks this.
