I am at that time to either sink more money into the rig or buy another one.
I have a 1995 Freightliner FLD 120 with 1.4 on it (inframe did about 500k ago) on a Cat 3406e.
I have an estimate of around $20k to fix everything that needs to bring the rig up to 100% (if there ever was a 100% rig) lol.
It is a good worker, but getting a bit rough around the edges.

Would you put the $20k into it or go for a newer model? If newer, which one.

I am a car hauler from NC to FL/SC/GA/AL.

Thanks in advance for your input.

What kind of fuel mileage are you getting?
Does that 20k include shiny new paint?

After dropping 20k, I would want a nearly new truck :biggrin_25514:

Sometimes a "new" truck brings new problems.

The $20K does get a shiny new paint job.
    I get 6.3-6.5 mpg
I agree with the "new" truck problems.

What's the list of things that $20k covers? Is it things you need to fix or just want to fix ? Are you talking transmission and rears , tires and brakes etc or just cosmetic fixes ?

From what I've seen a new truck ALWAYS has problems, big deal if the dealer "fixes" it when your down for a week!

I'd start putting that $1200 away that you could be making on a truck like that to add to refurbing it.

Unless there is a bigger more compelling reason to buy a newer truck?

I would keep the truck. Then I would remodel the sleeper, adding a bunch of insulation to keep out the noise. Polish all aluminum and chrome. Add a new ultra comfy drivers seat, insulate the cab, and accessorize as you see fit.

    Enjoy the ride :biggrin_25514:
